Brainstorming
A page to jot down ideas for GIS and other analysis on this site.
This page is dedicating to keeping record of some of my ideas for geospatial and other analyses so a) I don’t forget them and b) you keep me accountable. For each idea, I’ll indicate the status and, if in progress, link to the applicable repository so you can see what I’ve been doing. If you have any suggestions, go to my homepage to get in touch!
Geospatial Ideas:
-
McMenamins geospatial Analysis
- Working to compile demographics before analyzing
-
Raster analysis of places to live in XYZ city (Boston, Philly, etc.)
- To be based on factors like proximity to frequent transit, access to commercial corridors, whether people I know are in the area, diversity
- Some remaining questions include how to measure some of these things in a repeatable way, data sources (especially for locating built-up/commercial corridors), how to hide friends locations
-
Coffee neighborhoods of Portland, based on this Reddit post from r/Somerville
- Do I want to include as many coffee shops as I can? Just a sample (like 50 best)? Should I exclude all chains (even local)?
-
In a similar vein, map of Pizza Proximity in Connecticut, maybe some sort of shiny app map that allows you to filter them somewhat
- Could use the CT Pizza Trail as a guide to this, or find additional pizzerias
-
Something looking at the political future of New England and potential progressive pickups in the region, inspired by this Substack investigating progressive politics in NY State
- Again, need to think about how to measure this
- CT allows fusion voting so could look at WFP vote share there, but MA gets more complicated
-
Look at opportunities for growth in my hometown in CT, visualize value per acre
Other (Not-So-Analytical) Ideas:
-
Keep track of books I’ve read, maybe reviews?
-
Resume type post to tag near the top of my page
-
Develop a library of recipes for my own use (and maybe sharing)
-
Monthly music debriefs?
